Hot Air Balloon Safari In Tanzania

Hot Air Balloon Safari In Tanzania
One of the famous places to go on a Tanzania Safari is the Serengeti. Not only does this National Park receive lots of visitors every year and have an excellent reputation, but it offers a form of Tanzania Safari that is not available anywhere else in Tanzania.
Drift into a world of dreams with a hot air balloon ride across the Serengeti. As the sky floods over with crimson hues of pinks and gold, you can enjoy the awe inspiring sight of sunlight melting across the wide plains from way up high. Without a doubt the Serengeti is the number one spot for indulging in a hot air balloon ride. Not only will you have the chance to see this majestic landscape from a bird’s eye view but it also allows unrivalled photo opportunities and a first class wildlife viewing platform.
Hot air balloon adventures above the Serengeti tend to take flight at daybreak, this is the best time of day to rise above the continent as the sky rubs out from black to blue, allowing for a magnificent sunrise to sweep the world and the animals of Tanzania to wake for the new day or return after a night of hunting.
As you drift with the wind you can gaze out onto the true beauty of the Serengeti and spot the long swaying grasses, the mighty baobab trees with their upturned roots, the shimmering watering holes and flowing rivers, and of course the wide range of wildlife. From prides of lions lazing under trees to prancing gazelles, herds of great wildebeest, an eland darting into the shady grove, the hippos wallowing in the mud and a flock of bright birds beating their wings beside you – nothing can compare to this epic experience.
Each hot air balloon ride is totally unique and visitors never see the same thing twice, perhaps you will be the lucky guest who gets to spot a lioness take down her prey and her young cubs enjoy the kill, maybe you will see a herd of elephants hosing down in the early morning heat or follow the wildlife trail of the Great Migration.
This enchanting experience will leave you breathless and could be the most beautiful two hours of your entire life. Nothing beats climbing high in a hot air balloon and floating across one of the world’s most inspiring landscapes. Usually a hot air balloon ride will finish with a soft landing and a champagne celebration. Some companies even go as far as to create a gourmet, inspired breakfast to be served under the shady branches of an acacia tree with the wilderness as the perfect backdrop.
Booking a hot air balloon ride across the Serengeti is the only way to start your morning, this is a once in a lifetime memory that is bound to linger in your mind. The Game you can see on a Hot Air Balloon Safari
As the hot air balloon takes you out of the plains of the Serengeti, there are a wide variety of different animals that you can see on this Tanzania Safari. If you are going to the Serengeti to witness the Great Migration, then there is no better place to see it than from the air.
The 2 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 impalas, Thompson’s gazelles and Grant’s gazelles can be seen to their full effect and wonder from the air above, giving you a real insight into just why it’s called the Great Migration.
There is also an opportunity to see the predators of the plains of the Serengeti from a very different angle. With between and 3,000 and 4,000 lions in the park, as well as a plethora of cheetahs, leopards and hyenas, you won’t be disappointed.
There are also a myriad of other animals that call the Serengeti National Park home that you can see like never before from the air. These include elephants, topi, eland, hartebeest, serval, bat-eared foxes, hyrax, genet, hares, caracal, porcupines, aardvarks, giraffes, jackals, mongoose, crocodiles, monitor lizards, aardwolves, baboons, vervet and colobus monkeys as well as other primates and over 500 species of birds.
Where To Stay For A Hot Air Balloon Safari
Seronera Wildlife Lodge
Constructed from glass and wood and built skilfully around a rocky outcrop, this wildlife lodge is at one with its surroundings. With several waterholes close to the lodge that attract animals throughout the day and night, you can be sure to see some of the most amazing creatures that the Serengeti has to offer without ever leaving the lodge.
The Seronera Wildlife Lodge is one of the larger places you can stay when on a Tanzania Safari with 75 rooms that all offer different views of the Serengeti and let you glimpse the Great Migration, if you are there at the right time of year.
The hot air balloon launching site is only five minutes away from the Seronera Wildlife Lodge, making it extremely convenient, but it offers quite a few other activities beside the hot air balloon safari. You can take part in wildlife watching from the lodge itself or be taken out on one of their game driving photographic safaris. The lodge also offers a specialised migration safari and ornithological safaris for those who are interesting in seeing the different species of birds that inhabit the region.
You can also experience the culture of local Maasai tribes as well as spend evenings enjoying performances of tradition dance, songs and music that are organised by the lodge as well as other forms of entertainment.
Lake Ndutu Tented Lodge
Due to the early time that the Lake Ndutu Tented lodge’s hot air balloon Tanzania Safari departs at, you may not only get to see the creatures of the plains that inhabit the daytime but also you may just be lucky enough to see some of the nocturnal creatures as you make your way to the launch site.
The breakfast served after your hot air balloon ride is prepared in the bush, served under an acacia tree on bone china, with linen and Sheffield cutlery, adding an extra element of luxury to your morning before you are then transported to rendezvous with your guide for the rest of your day.
The Lake Ndutu Lodge can be found within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area of the Serengeti and has 20 sleeping tents that include family suites and individual guest tents. You can also take part in walking safaris whilst staying at the Lake Ndutu Tented Lodge or take part in one of their game drives.
We love this area of the Sernegeti, not as busy as the Lobo and Seronera areas and still offering a great wildlife experience. We do recommend booking early for Jan – Feb as the wildebeast calfing takes place in the local area and the lodge is booked many months in advance.
Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp
A permanent tented camp, the Grumeti Serengeti is found in the Western Corridor area of the Seregenti and is most popular during late May and early July when the Great Migration passes by. It is also known as the Grumeti River Camp.
Hugging the banks of the Grumeti River, the tented camp feels more like a lodge, with the tents raised on platforms with a main area in the camp that provides excellent views of the river, where you can watch pods of hippopotami.
Complete with swimming pool and ten double tents, this camp is quiet, even when all ten tents are occupied. Not far from the launching site for the hot air balloon Tanzania Safaris, the Grumeti Serengeti tented camp also offers a game driving experience.
Because of the river, not only can you watch the Great Migration and see hippopotami, you can also see other game including crocodiles and some stunning wildlife as well as predators and the small creatures that call the Serengeti home. It should be remembered that there is a high risk of coming across dangerous game whilst staying in this camp due to its proximity to the river.
