Game Drive on Safari

What is A Game Drive  – it is what a Tanzanian safari is all about; you travel around the National Parks in a specialised vehicle with a driver / guide who will show you the wildlife in Tanzania.

Game Drives are usually conducted in the early mornings, late afternoon or at night, since these are the coolest times of the day when most animals are more active. During the game drive, our knowledgeable guides will introduce you to life in the savanna and share their infinite knowledge about African wildlife.

On a standard Tanzania safari your game drive vehicle is the same which takes you from National Park to National Park as well as on the actual game drives. These are specialised 4×4 vehicles usually Toyota or Landrover brands. These can take between 4 and 10 guests (with an extended vehicle used for larger groups.)

If you are on a fly in safari then you will travel in one of the lodge’s vehicles while on a game drive on safari. These are usually fully open vehicles (they do not travel on main roads) and have significantly elevated seats so you can really see the wildlife. Your driver and oten seperate guide sit in the front and can easily relay any information to you.

A safari game drive can vary in length and distance, depending on individual preferences. As you drive into the wilderness, you will be captivated by the vast beauty of the savanna, with its rolling hills and infinite horizon. If you wish to use the safari vehicle exclusively for you and your companions, please advise us during reservation. We are very flexible and willing to simply work with you to include the level of exclusivity that you desire.

Night Game Drive Information

The night game drive is something relativly special and rare in Tanzania. Until recently in all Tanzania National Parks you have to leave by 1800. Recently however Manyara National Park is allowing night game drives, an exciting once in a lifetime experience

This means for a night game drive you have to be in a private concession or in one of the lodges in the buffer zone around the National Parks or in Lake Manyara.

The bush is a completely different world at night which is what makes night drives so special. They usually begin at 2000 and lasta around 3 hours. As visibility is affected these are much slower drives than the daytime and you usually only travel a few kilometres from your starting point.

Night game drives allow you the chance to see some of Tanzania’s nocturnal species such as the BushBaby with its huge eyes and porcupines, you never know what you will see – a pride of lions feeding or a hippo walking between water holes.

The vehicle is equipped with a special “spotter” seat at the front of the vehicle as well as a spot light. This light is shined to the side of the animals rather than directly at them so their night vision is not affected.

The sounds of the bush are a fundamental piece of a night game drive encounter alongside the starry skies.  We are sure you will enjoy.
